By the end of 2019, the INDOHUN-OHLN activities in collaboration with the National Standardization Agency (BSN) have carried out three activities in the Laboratory Management Biorisk Management System (SMBL). After previously being held at BBKL and BBUSKP Jakarta, the assessment activities were then carried out at the Jakarta Center for Health Engineering and Disease Control (BBTKL PP). The three laboratories that have carried out this assessment are the start lines for strengthening the laboratory in the detection of diagnostic activities in the future.

Laboratory evaluation activities were carried out on January 22-23, 2020 at the BBTKL PP Microbiology and Biomolecular Laboratory Jakarta. Still the same as the previous activity, this SMBL assessment activity aims to provide understanding related to SNI 8340: 2016 and its application in organizations, conduct GAP analysis and assess the readiness of laboratories through PPL that refers to the SNI. Then the results of the assessment will be disseminated in order to provide conclusions as well as suggestions for improvements that can be done in the future.

The activity was held in the morning on January 22, 2020 with an opening speech by Dr. Grace Ginting Munthe, MARS as Head of PTL, BBTKL PP Jakarta along with all structural and functional officials. Then the agenda continued with socialization on the substance of the SMBL based on SNI 8340: 2016. Also, the INDOHUN-OHLN conveyed the details of the Laboratory Assessment Tool (PPL) that will be used to the leadership and management.

The assessment was divided into several components, namely the interview component, document inspection, and laboratory visits and observations. Interviews were conducted with top leaders who were related to biological risk management policies in the relevant laboratory organizations. In addition interviews were also conducted on personnel who are directly responsible in the laboratory and can be used as role models in laboratory organizations.

For document inspection activities, there are 16 categories of documents reviewed that cover the management of biological risk management, risk assessment, information and storage of biological substances and toxins, etc. Then the final assessment was carried out through visits and observations of the laboratory that aims to understand the state of the facilities and work procedures in the laboratory. The Assessment Team in charge is required to use special footwear, laboratory coats, and masks as a form of PPE implementation. Components reviewed included personnel capabilities, availability of supporting equipment and facilities, waste management, distribution and handling of samples, and the existence of an ongoing health program (periodic vaccinations).

The final results obtained by the BBTKL PP Jakarta Microbiology and Biomolecular Laboratory as a whole were quite good, with the highest element values in the good microbiological technique, physical facility requirements, as well as equipment and maintenance. In addition, this laboratory has various advantages, including the existence of ISO 17025 accreditation, has a competent safety officer / K3, adequate infrastructure, good wastewater treatment mechanism, implementation of calibration tools and has equipment certification, and has risk mapping which is good for the physical. Various components that are already good or not good in the future can be maintained and certainly increased again in order to improve the quality of the laboratory in the future.
