(Jakarta, 20th September 2018) Establishing cooperation with Government institutions is crucial in realizing the development of laboratories on a national scale. To that end, One Health Laboratory Network (OHLN) initiated a collaboration with the Jakarta Center for Environmental Health Engineering (BBTKL), as a representative of the government laboratory UPT. The first effort OHLN undertook was a visit to the Jakarta Center for Environmental Health Engineering (BBTKL) on September 20, 2018.

This visit was the first time OHLN visited Jakarta BBTKL. On this occasion OHLN had the purpose of coming to establish communication, introduce OHLN to the leadership of BBTKL Jakarta, as well as discuss potential cooperation between Jakarta BBTKL and OHLN in the national laboratory network in the future. Through this effort, it is hoped that synchronization can be created in the development of laboratories in Indonesia.

The visit was conducted with a discussion in the Jakarta BBTKL meeting room and was attended by several leaders, heads and staff from the laboratories there. OHLN was received by the Head of BBTKL Jakarta, Zainal Ilyas Nampira, SKM, M.Kes. The discussion session began with remarks from him and continued with the presentation of the BBTKL Jakarta profile. Furthermore, the OHLN coordinator explained the profiles of INDOHUN and OHLN and opened a discussion on the potential for collaboration in the future.

The discussion was conducted with a question and answer method between BBTKL Jakarta staff and the OHLN team. The result of the discussion was the acceptance of OHLN to collaborate with BBTKL Jakarta in the form of a subsequent visit in the context of an assessment of the laboratories there, as well as in the case of biorisiko management training. This meeting was an important milestone in the collaboration between OHLN and BBTKL in the development of laboratories in Indonesia, specifically for the assessment of laboratory capacity and training in bio-risk management.
